If so, join us for our Directors' Panel, featuring three remarkable directors from our own Fox Valley! Moderated by Katrina Syrris, these experienced directors will answer questions that get to the heart of what it means to be a director, the responsibilities involved, the challenges you will encounter and overcome, and the fulfilling reward of directing a show and bringing out the best in your actors and technical team.

Larry Boller
A long-time director and actor, Larry Boller is a current board member for Steel Beam Theatre in St Charles as well as for Independent Players in Elgin. He has directed 40+ shows for various groups in Illinois, shows ranging from comedies and farces to mysteries and serious dramas. His favorite directorial experiences include such shows as Deathtrap.The Boys Next Door, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Lend Me a Tenor, The Price, All My Sons, How the Other Half Loves, and Doubt. Larry has written theatre reviews published online and in print. Now retired, Larry is happily married to Marge Uhlarik-Boller (Steel Beam Theatre's Executive Artistic Director) and is father to three children.
Julie Price
Julie Price has been directing youth theater for the Palatine Park District (PPD) since 2009. Her classes allow her to put 100’s of students on the Cutting Hall stage each year presenting musicals and plays. She also works with local community theatre groups directing musicals, radio shows and plays.
She is currently working on an original Family Friendly musical for The Fremont Theatre Co., “Holly the Elf Saves Xmas Eve.” It will be presented at Pheasant Run, in St. Charles, Dec 6, 7, 8.
She is also working on the musical, “Mrs. Scrooge” – a musical with an all-ages cast – this production is a fund raiser for the PPD Cultural Arts Scholarship Fund – “Susannah’s Gift”. It runs Dec 20, 21 at Cutting Hall in Palatine.
And finally, she is working on the play “Suite Surrender” for The Elgin Theatre Co. It will be presented on the 8th floor of The Elgin Professional Building, from Jan 24 – Feb 9.
Sean Hargadon
Sean Hargadon is the Artistic Director of the award-winning Janus Theatre Company, which recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary. He is also the founder of the Elgin Shakespeare Project and Walkabout: Theater on Your Feet. He received his Master Degree (Distinction) in the Advanced Teaching of Shakespeare from the University of Warwick with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He conducts workshops focusing on ensemble and original practices. Through the years, he also actively served on various boards, commissions and projects helping to transform Elgin into the thriving arts community it is today.
Meet the Moderator
Katrina Syrris
Founder, Producer, Artistic Director at Goodly Creatures Theatre
Katrina Syrris is an actor, director, producer, and playwright in the Fox Valley Area, and currently serves on the board of the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission. She has been involved in theatre since she was four years old, after she gripped her chest and screeched while slowly sliding down the giant lazy boy in her living room, prompting her parents to put her into acting classes. Since then, she has starred in and directed shows consistently for the last two decades. She is founder of Goodly Creatures Theatre, previously seen at the Elgin Art Showcase, Stage 773 in Chicago, and festivals. She is also Goodly's primary educator, teaching acting lessons, and yoga classes for artists and the general public. As an actress, she has been nominated by Broadway World Chicago for Best Actress for her appearance as Alice in The Drowning Girls and for best Ensemble for The Drowning Girls and Boeing Boeing (Gabriella).
Other favorite roles include Woman #3 in The Big Meal, Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Young Woman in Machinal, Viola in Twelfth Night, Sooze in SubUrbia, Annie in Over the Tavern, and Annie in The Miracle Worker. She has also been featured in Bravo Magazine's "On the Marquee" as a featured interview.
For Katrina, theatre was never just a phase, it’s her passion.
