Our 2020 Season

An Ideal Husband

By Oscar Wilde

At the distinguished dinner party of British politician Sir Robert Chiltern, an unwelcome guest, Lady Chevely, attempts to blackmail the unwitting host into a fraudulent political scheme by threatening to unveil the depth of his corruption to the world- and worse yet, his wife. Enlisting the help of his dearest friend, the clever and dandified Lord Goring, Chiltern must find a way to turn the tables on his newest enemy before it’s too late. This modern retelling of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy addresses political corruption, the facade of propriety in high society, and the unattainable ideal of the perfect marriage.

Much Ado About Nothing

By William Shakespeare

Shakespeare’s beloved comedy tells the story of Benedick and Beatrice, a pair of sworn enemies, constantly engaged in a “merry war” designed to insult and berate one another. A plot then unfolds among their close friends and spectators to trick the two into confessing their love for each other. Meanwhile, Claudio, a soldier of the prince Don Pedro, is fooled into believing that his beloved Hero has been unfaithful to him. Hilarity ensues, as a story of rumors, deception, and mistaken identity unfolds, and the most unlikely pairs join forces to set things right.

The Jolly Corner

An Adaptation by Katrina Syrris based on the Short Story By Henry James

An original adaptation of the short story by Henry James, The Jolly Corner describes the torture of Spencer Brydon as he returns to the home in New York where he spent his childhood- on “the jolly corner”. Brydon begins to prowl the house at night in order to confront the ghost of the man he might have been, who now haunts the empty home. James tells a story of regret, loss of sanity, and loss of self, and this retelling for the stage brings home the meaning of wondering what might have been, and remaining satisfied with where you are.
